| Objeetive:The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effect of scalp cluster acupuncture on MMP-9 in rats after cerebral infarction,and to explore the mechanism of scalp cluster acupuncture on cerebral infarction damage.Methods:60 male Wister rats were randomly divided into the scalp cluster acupuncture group(25 rats),the model group(25rats)and the sham group(10rats).Improved Longa method was introduced to prepare the model of middle cerebral artery occlusion in rats.The sham group had the same process except internal carotid artery without line.The rats in the scalp cluster acupuncture group received cluster needling of scalp point on the parietal parts and retained needles for 30 minutes,while the model group received no treatment.Behavior scores of each group were recorded on the 1st,3rd,7th,14th,and 21st days after the operation,five rats of each group and two of the sham group were sacrificed to remove their brain,Morphocytology was observed under the light microscope,and the immunohistochemical method was introduced to detect the expression of MMP-9 around the cerebral infarction focus.Results:Behavior scores on the 7th,14th,and 21st days in the scalp cluster acupuncture group were much better than those on the 1st,3rd days,and were much better than the model group(P＜0.05).MMP-9 positive cells around the cerebral infarction focus significantly increased on the 1st,3rd days both in the scalp cluster acupuncture group and the model group,and decreased on the 7th day both,The expression of MMP-9 in the scalp cluster acupuncture group were lower than that in the model group,and there was statistical difference between them(P＜0.01).Conclusion:The scalp cluster acupuncture can significantly improve neural functions in the rats with cerebral infarction.Its mechanism may be reducing the early expression of MMP-9 around the cerebral infarction focus,and decrease the cerebral neural cells damage caused by inflammation and odema.
