ObjectiveNeuroglobin is a recently discovered the third kind of oxygen-carrying globulin, which was mainly expressed in brain and retina.NGB has been proposed to act as:an intracellular oxygen store,an oxygen sensor,a scavenger of reactive oxygen or nitrogen species,a NO converting enzyme due to its dioxygenase activity, and aterminal oxidase facilitating ATP production under hypoxia.Neuroglobin offers a potential approach to the study of hypoxic injury. To investigate the expression and change of neuroglobin(NGB) gene on hypoxic-ischemic retinal injury of rat.MethodsSeventy Wistar rats were divided into 7 groups randomly. The left eye was the study groups and the fellow eye was the control group. The retinal tissues were taken at 1 min,5 min,10 min,15 min,20 min,30 min and 60 min after retinal hypoxic-ischemia injury, and RT-PCR method were used.One-way method of SPSS soft-bage was used for statistics.ResultsThere were time-depended pattern of the expression of NGB gene.It increased rapidly at 1 min after ischemia, there was significant difference from control group(P<0.05).It kept in high level at 5-15 minute(P<0.05).and then decreased at 20-60 minute, there was no difference between test and control group(P>0.05). ConclusionThe expression of NGB in retinal tissue increased rapidly after hypoxic-ischemic retinal injury of rats, suggesting that NGB may have important function in the protection process of hypoxic-ischemic brain injury.
