0bjective In order to facilitale our recognition of primary biliary cirrhosis(PBC),we studied PBC's clinical features and the responses to therapy. Methods Clinical data of 21 patients clinically diagnosed with PBC were reviewed. Results Among the 21 patients, 76.2% (16/21) of the cases were females, the mean age at diagnosis was 57.7±10.7 years, the mean time at diagnosis was 35 months(from 1 month to 20 years). The frequent symptoms were fatigue(57.1%,12/21) ,skin pruritus (52.3%,11/21) and weight-losing (42.9%,9/21). The frequent signs were Liver palm (47.6%,10/21), hapatom- egly(28.6%,6/21),splenomegly(42.9%,9/21),jaundice(57.1%,12/21) and s- kin hyperpigmentation(28.6%,6/21). Serum GGT and ALP levels were markedly elevated in majority of the patients, whereas ALT and AST levels were mildly elevated. Serum IgM levels were elevated in 76.2%(16/21) patients. Serum AMA of all patients was positive.3 of 21 cases accompanied with sj-ǒgren syndrome. The pathologic diagnosis of liver biopsy in 18 of 21 cases was stage I in 3 cases, stage II in 3 cases and stage III in 7 cases. The responses to therapy: ursodeoxycholic acid(UDCA) was effective in most patients. Conclusion PBC mainly affects middle aged women. Jaundice, pruritus, splenomegaly and hepatomegaly are their clinical features. The elevated level of ALP,GGT,IgM and AMA positive are typical in diagnosis of PBC. Liver biopsy can help to make a identify diagnosis and carry on pathological staging. UDCA can improve curative of PBC. It′s important to pay much more attention to the recognition of PBC for early diagnosis and good effects of treatment.
