Part one:Correlation between each structured volumes of medial temporal lobe and menory functions in patients which vMCIObjective:In order to provide the early prediction method for vascular dementia(VD),we combined structural magnetic resonance imaging and psychometric testing to study the correlation of the memory function and volumes in vascular mild cognitive impairment(vMCI) patients. Methods:The volumes of amygdala, hippocampus and parahippocampal gyrus in 32 vMCI patients and 30 normal controls were measured with IBASPM technique. The memory function were assessed by WMS-RC testing in all subjects. Results:The volumes of amygdala, hippocampus and parahippocampal gyrus have no significant difference in vMCI patients and normal control subjects(P>0.05).The volume of right hippocampus was positively correlated with the recognition scores(r=0.586,p=0.021).The volume of left amygdala was negatively correlated with the visual reproduction scores(r=-0.400,p=0.043).The volume of right parahippocampal gyrus was positively correlated with the association study scores(r=0.418,p=0.033).Conclusion:Between memory function and each structured volume of medial temporal lobe in patients with vMCI is correlation. The different memory function is relative to special department of medial temporal lobe.Part two:A diffusion tensor imaging study of normal aging in the corpus callosumObjective:To quantify the anisotropy and apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC) changes of the corpus callosum, and to reflect the corpus callosum changes with age by using diffusion tensor imaging(DTI).Methods:Apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC) and fractional anisotropy(FA) maps of the corpus callosum were gained. We measure FA and ADC values on the genu and splenium of the corpus callosum, try to discover the underlying microstructu-cture changes. Results:Both in young and old groups,FA value in the splenium of the corpus callosum was greater than genu(P<0.05).FA values of the old group were lower in the genu and splenium than those in t young group(P<0.05).ADC values in old group were higher than those in young group(p<0.05). Conclusion:DTI can reflect the microstructure changes of the corpus callosum with the age noninvasively.Part three:The corpus callosum in vascular mild cognitive impalrment: anusotropic difference by using diffusion tensor imaging studyObjective:To investigate whether corpus callosum(CC) abnormalities are present in vMCI,and the relationship between anisotropic difference and cognitive status. Methods:The research was performed in 32 vMCI patients and 35 age-matched nondemented older adults. All patients and controls received DTI examination. For each individual, regional FA and ADC values were measured in the genu and splenium of the CC.Results:Compare with normal controls,FA values significantly decreased and ADC values significantly increased,in vMCI group.Positive correlation was found between MMSE and FA values of the splenium(r=0.796,P<0.05).Negative correlation was found between MMSE and ADC values of the splenium (r=-0.803,P<0.01).Conclusions:This finding suggest that the corpus callosum integrity was destroyed with DTI technique.
