Objective: To discuss the etiology of postpartum hemorrhage with the aim of curing in reason , taking precautions against postpartum hemorrhage and reducing maternal mortality rate. Methods:There were 3487 deliveries in this hospital from 2006 to 2007,The amount of blood loss was measured by the method of volume and range estimation,Postpartum hemorrhage was defined as blood loss≥500 ml during 24 hours after labor. The binary logistic regression was used in the analysis of risk factor. Results: 116 cases of postpartum hemorrhage were identified among 3487 deliveries, the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage being 3.31%.There were 11 factors associated with postpartum hemorrhage significantly according to the single factor analysis and 5 factors entered the logistic regression model according to multiple factors analysis,They were uterine inertia(OR=16.248,95%CI14.306~18.809),placenta previa (OR=11.217,95%CI8.734~14.407),adherence implantation or residual of placenta(OR=3.116,95%CI2.348~4.134),macrosomia (OR=2.932,95%CI2.426~3.543),and cesarean section.(OR=1.945,95%CI1.654~2.287).Conclusion: Postpartum hemorrhage is one of the most common obstetric complications, it has a high incidence (3.31 percent), Detecting uterine inertia and applying hysterotonics timely, reducing un willing pregrancies and induced abortion, controlling fetal weight and the rate of cesarean section are all important to minimize the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage and obstetric mortality.
