Objective:To evaluate the expresion and the correlation analysis of M-cadherin and neural growth factor in medial rectus with concomitant exotropia.Methods:M-cadherin and neural growth factor were examined by immunohistochemistry S-P method in the paraffin specimens from 27 pieces of medial rectus with concomitant exotropia(strabismus group) and 14 pieces of normal medial rectus(control group). The positive results were analyzed quantitively according to Random Coding and double-blind control principle. Results:â‘ The quantity of M-cadherin of medial rectus with concomitant exotropia was lower very significantly than that of normal medial rectus and showed a highly significant correlation with that of muscle cells in strabismus group, and a highly significant correlation with course of disease(P<0.01).â‘¡The quantity of neural growth factor of medial rectus in strabismus group were lower very significantly than that of controll group, and showed a highly significant correlation with that of M-cadherin in strabismus group (P<0.01).Conclussions:â‘ The loss of muscle cell of medial rectus is an important cause of concomitant exotropia.â‘¡The progressive atrophy of medial rectus with concomitant exotropia is relevant to the deficiency of the muscle satellite cells.â‘¢The decrease of quiescent muscle satellite cells of weaker side muscle is relevant to the low expression of neural growth factor in concomitant exotropia.
