Objective To assess the effects of patients with bone tumors who underwent limb salvage and amputation operations.Method The literature,published in English from 1982 to 2008 which compare limb salvage and amputation of bone tumors,were collected.To deal with the 5-year survival rate,local recurrence,quality of life and phyfical function,Psychological endurance.Results The local recurrence rates of patients who underwent limb salvage are higher than those who underwent amputation,but the two groups have no significant difference in 5-year survival rate.There were no significant difference in ability of driving a car,participating in sports,difficulty in climbing staires,been employed and psychological endurance between the two groups,the patients who underwent limb salvage surgey used lesser walking aids than those who underwent amputation.Conclusions Although The local recurrence rates of patients who underwent limb salvage are higher than those who underwent amputation,the two groups have no significant difference in 5-year survival rate.There were no significant difference in ability of driving a car,participating in sports,difficulty in climbing staires,been employed and psychological endurance between the two groups,the patients who underwent limb salvage surgey used lesser walking aids than those who underwent amputation.
