Gender Differences In Factors Related To Suicidal Ideation In The Capital Of Yunnan Province Patients With Depression

Objective:To investigate the gender differences in factors related to suicidal ideation in the capital of Yunnan province patients with depression.Methods:A cross-sectional study was designed by collecting the 149 cases of depression patients with suicidal ideation who are outpatients and inpatients in the first affiliated hospital of Kunming medical college and mental health center in Yunnan province. Investigate the factors which related to suicidal ideation in patients with depression by using Beck Depression Inventory,self-rating anxiety scale,suicide attitude questionnaire,general well-being schedule,self-esteem scale,simplified coping style questionnaire,social support scale and Eysenck personality questionnaire.Statistical analysis was done by the SPSS11.5.t test,variance analysis,chi-square-test, correlation and regression were performed to compare the relevant variables.Results:1.Compare with norm of EPQ,sum of E score and L score are significantly lower than norm but sum of N score is significantly higher than norm in male group:in female group,sum of P score and N score are significantly higher than that in norm,L score is significantly lower than that in norm.2.Sum of E score and N score in male group are significantly lower than those in female group;sum of L score in male group is significantly higher than that in female group.3.Sum of social support score,subjective support score,objective support score and the availability of support score are significantly lower than those in the norm of social support scale.4.Positive coping style score is significantly lower than that in the norm of simplified coping style questionnaire both in male and female group.5.Sum of general well-being score is significantly lower than that in the norm of GWB both in male and female group;sum of general well-being score in male group is significantly lower than that in female group.6.Sum of self-esteem score is significantly lower than that in the norm of SES both in male and female group.7.Scores of two factors of BDI which named depression and disappointing in female group are significantly higher than those in male group.8.Sum of anxiety scores is significantly higher than that in the norm of SAS both in male and female group.9.Rice,education,depression,anxiety and self-esteem are positive correlation with suicidal ideation in male patients with depression.Subjective happiness,negative life event,character,suicide attitude,subjective support and positive copying style are negative correlation with suicidal ideation in male patients with depression. Drinking,depression,anxiety,general well-being,N scores and P scores are positive correlation with suicidal ideation in female patients with depression.Age, mental disorder family history,suicide attitude,objective support and positive copying style are negative correlation with suicidal ideation in female patients with depression.10.After regression analysis,rice,religion,subjective happiness,depression,negative life events,suicide attitude,negative copying style,anxiety,self-esteem and social support have significantly effect in male depression patient's suicidal ideation.In female group,those factors are age,drinking,mental disorder family history, depression,suicide attitude,positive copying style,anxiety,N scores,P scores and social support. Conclusion:1.Compare with ordinary people,depression patients have significant characters.In male group,there are emotional instability and introversion;in female group, there are emotion instability and psychoticism.2.general well-being,self-esteem,social support,positive copying style are lower than ordinary people both in male and female group,but anxiety are higher than them.3.depression,anxiety,agree to suicide are dangerous factors both in male and female group,but positive copying style,social support are protective factors both in male and female group.4.Both of male and female depression patient have significant characters related to their suicidal ideation.In male group,this kind of character is introversion.In female group,those characters are emotional instability and psychoticism.5.Lower self-esteem versus suicidal ideation in male patients with depression. Lower general well-being versus suicidal ideation in female patients with depression.6.Negative life events such as occupation problems versus suicidal ideation in male patients with depression.7.Positive copying style may lower the risk of suicidal ideation emerges in male group.Negative copying style may higher the risk of suicidal ideation emerge in female group.8.Agree to suicide behavior would higher the risk of suicidal ideation emerge both in male and female group,meanwhile agree to euthanasia would higher the risk of suicidal ideation emerge in male group.
