With the control of the infectious diseases, Spectrum of disease which leads to the death of infants has greatly changed. When the infant mortality rate decreases below 40‰, the problem of birth defects becomes more and more serious and makes one of the main reasons that influence women and babies' health and population quality.The birth defect rate of Zhejiang Province rises in recent years which threatens the newborn population quality heavily. To prevent Birth defects effectively has become the need of newborn population quality enhancement, people's livelihood improvement and building a harmonious society.Research on the causes of birth defects is fundamental to prevent it. Birth defects are affected by inheritable and environmental causes, or both of them. This paper tries to analyze the causes of birth defects though the social environmental factors, using Zhejiang Province as an example. This paper also combines the monitor data of birth defects from Health Bureau, medical identification data of invalid children and data of a survey on women's birth and health care and analyzes the status of birth defects in Zhejiang Province. Meanwhile, it discusses the social environmental factors which influence birth defects in Zhejiang Province, and proposes measures to improve the intervention work in order to deal with the current problems.There are six parts. The first part is introduction, including the raise of the subject and the meaning of this research. The second part expounds literature review. The third part discusses research thought, methods, sources of data and concept definitions. The forth part analyzes the status of birth defects in Zhejiang Province, including birth defect rate, main types, invalids status and true situation. The fifth part discusses the social environmental factors which influence birth defects in Zhejiang Province and proposes existing problems. The last part puts forward solutions and suggestions.
