Study On Acceptability And Comparison Of Two Female Condoms

【Objectives】General objectives:The aims of the study are to know and compare the condition of FC utilization("Kang Dunbao",the one made in China & "Reality",the one made in UK) among FSWs,to explore the acceptability of FC and its risk-factors among FSW, and to evaluate the development foreground of FC in China and the possibility of application and generalization.Concrete objectives:1.to explore the acceptability of FC and its risk-factors among FSWs;2.to know the condition and main problems of FC utilization(including "Kang Dunbao" and "Reality") among FSWs;3.to compare "Kang Dunbao" with "Reality" on appearance,utilization,et al and to explore the distinction of acceptability among FSWs;4.to evaluate the development foreground of FC in China and the possibility of application and generalization according to the acceptability among FSWs.【Methods】The study is Randomized Controlled Trial,and Cross-over Design is applied. According to special standard,subjects are carefully selected and randomly divided into two groups:A/B group.The subjects in A group use "Kang Dunbao" first,then "Reality", and the subjects in B group are opposite.The key processes in the study mainly are: recruitment of sample,random grouping,and compliance.Three stages are in the study,those are the stage before utilization,the stage of utilization,and the stage after utilization.Qualitative interview and quantitative investigation are applied to collect related data.The mainly analytic contents include: comparison between the stage before utilization and the stage after utilization, comparison between "Kang Dunbao" and "Reality" during the stage of utilization,and the mainly analytic methods include:Descriptive analysis,Chi-square test,Logistic regression,and two independent sample nonparametric test.【Results】The study(from 7th,Sept 2007 to 28th,Dec 2007) plans to investigate 320 FSW, including waiters in big,small restaurants,haircut porch,Kala OK hall,sauna or massage hall,et al.Actually 307 questionnaires are collected,291 questionnaires are analyzed, 145 subjects in group A,146 subjects in group B.1.The acceptability of FC and its risk-factorsAfter utilization,40.5%FSW say they can't accept FC,and the main reasons are: affect sex(35.5%),partner objects(26.4%),hard to use(26.4%).After utilization,63.4% partners they can't accept FC,and the main reasons are:affect sex(69.9%),bad appearance(16.7%),hard to use(12.4%).After utilization,64.6%feel satisfied,35.4%don't feel satisfied.Compared with those before utilization,the rate of satisfaction(from 81.4%to 59.5%),the rate of continuous utilization(from 83.2%to 64.9%),the rate of recommendation(from 86.9% to 65.3%) decrease after utilization,and they have statistical significance(P＜0.001).42.6%think that it's hard to acquire FC,and 83.4%think that the reasonable price of FC is 1～2 RMB.Many factors,for example,Partners' agreement,decreasing discomforts,less disturbs to sex life,and more advantages,influence the acceptability of FC,the rates are higher than contrast group,and they have statistical significance(P＜0.05).2.The condition of utilization of FC(including "Kang Dunbao" and "Reality")As the practice growing,the condition of utilizing "Kang Dunbao" become much better,and they are statistically significant(P＜0.001).The differences include the change of using appendix,tools(from 41.0%to 56.5%),napkin(from 82.1%to 73.2%); the change of making mistake,causing difficulties for sex(from 54.5%to 23.9%),outer ring is pressed into vagina(from 15.5%to 6.5%),et al;the change of feeling discomforts, feeling about the inner ring(from 74.5%to 37.0%),having discomforts(from 54.5%to 23.9%),not affecting sex(from 26.6%to 51.1%),et al.As the practice growing,the condition of utilizing "Reality" become much better, and they are statistically significant(P＜0.001).The differences include the change of making mistake,causing difficulties for sex(from 38.4%to 11.8%),outer ring is pressed into vagina(from 13.4%to 4.8%),et al;the change of feeling discomforts,feeling about the inner ring(from 59.2%to 45.6%),having discomforts(from 41.1%to 20.2%),not affecting sex(from 38.7%to 73.2%),et al.3.Comparison between "Kang Dunbao" and "Reality"The condition of "Reality" is better than that of "Kang Dunbao" at the beginning of utilization,and they are statistically significant(P＜0.05).The differences include decreasing rate of making mistake,and less discomforts.While,they are almost the same at the end and during the process of utilization,and they aren't statistically significant(P＞0.05).Except the design of appearance,FSW think that "Kang Dunbao" is better than "Reality"(P＜0.05),while,the distinction of other aspects,including the process of putting in,taking out,utilization,and preference,aren't significant(P＞0.05).46.4% think tool are good,and napkin is accepted by 55.1%FSW.However,they are neutral to lubricant and plastic bag.41.6%love the appearance of "Kang Dunbao" more,44.0% love the packing of "Kang Dunbao" more.【Conclusions】1.Compared with those before utilization,the rate of satisfaction,the rate of continuous utilization,the rate of recommendation decrease after utilization,and the acceptability among FSW is low,more obvious among male partners,more than 50% male partners can't accept FC.2.Many factors influence the acceptability of FC,not only include the factors of FC itself,the factors of FSW,but also related to the factors of male partners.All these give clues of the orientation of application and generalization,one thing is to strengthen the amelioration of FC itself,to improve the awareness of FSW,the anther thing is to advocate the IEC to male partners.3.The condition of "Reality" is better than that of "Kang Dunbao" at the beginning of utilization,while they are almost the same at the end of utilization.Whether "Kang Dunbao",or "Reality",the main problems are:difficult to put in at first,feel about the outer ring,feel about the outer ring,have discomforts during sex,however,all the problems can be overcome through more practice.4.Except the design of appearance,FSW think that "Kang Dunbao" is better than "Reality",while,the distinction of other aspects,including the process of putting in, taking out,utilization,and preference,aren't significant.Most subjects applause to tool and napkin that supplied by "Kang Dunbao",however,they are neutral to lubricant and plastic bag.
