Condom Use And It's Determinants Among Hotel-based Female Sex Workers In Furong District, Changsha City

Objective: To understand the demographic character and condom use of female sex workers (FSW) in Furong district, Changsha City.Methods: Two hundred and twenty-nine female sex workers (FSW) in Furong district, Changsha City were sampled and surveyed one-to-one by the structured questionnaires.Results: One hundred and seventy-two questionnaires were qualifiled. The average age of hotel-based female sex workers in Furong district was 22 years old, 79.7% single, 90.1% received junior high school or further education, 33.7% come from rural, 88.4% had reportedly engaged in commercial sex activities not more than 2 years, the rate of condom use in the latest month was 80.7%.. However, the frequency of condom use among short length service of FSW was lower; the frequency of condom use was difference among different sex partners; knowledge of STD/AIDS and self-efficacy were the important factors affecting the condom use among FSW.Conclusion: Female sex workers who had statilzed sex partners and sex serviced for not more than one year were important people in health intervention program. The health intervention program should be focused on impoving self-efficacy and knowledge of STD/AIDS among FSW in order to greatly improve the frequency of condom use among FSW.
