PartI Significance and expression of c-erbB-2 and Cx43 in gastric carcinomaObjective : To explore the expression of c-erbB-2 and Cx43 protein and to investigate the relation of c-erbB-2,Cx43 and the potential of invasion and metastasis in gastric carcinoma .Methods: The expression of c-erbB-2 and Cx43 protein was examined with S-P immunohistochemical method in 48 cases of gastric carcinoma and 26 cases of gastritis. Results: c-erbB-2 and Cx43 were expressed at cell membrance and cytoplasm. The total positive rates of c-erbB-2and Cx43 protein staining in 48 cases of gastric carcinoma were 50.0%(24/48) and 43.8%(21/48) respectively. The high level of c-erbB-2 expression and the low level of Cx43 expression were positively correlated with tumor size, differentiation degree and lymph node metastasis in gastric carcinoma(p<0.05). There was a negative relationship between the expression of c-erbB-2 and Cx43.( r=-0.378,p<0.05)Conclusions: The positive expression of c-erbB-2 and negative expression of Cx43 were correlated with tumor differentiation degree and lymph node metastasis. The combined detection of c-erbB-2 and Cx43 protein may be valuable in predicting the biological behavior of gastric carcinoma. PartII Significance and expression of E-cadherin and Cx43 in gastric carcinomaObjective : To explore the expression of E-cadherin and Cx43 protein and to investigate the relation of E-cadherin,Cx43 and the potential of invasion and metastasis in gastric carcinoma .Methods: The expression of E-cadherin and Cx43 protein was examined with S-P immunohistochemical method in 48 cases of gastric carcinoma and 26 cases of gastritis. Results: E-cadherin and Cx43 were expressed at cell membrance and cytoplasm. The total positive rates of E-cadherin and Cx43 protein staining in 48 cases of gastric carcinoma were 56.3%(27/48) and 43.8%(21/48) respectively. The low level of E-cadherin and Cx43 expression were correlated with lymph node metastasis in gastric carcinoma(p<0.05). There was a positive relationship between the expression of E-cadherin and Cx43.( r=0.354,p<0.05)Conclusions: The low expression of E-cadherin and Cx43 were correlated with tumor differentiation degree and lymph node metastasis. The combined detection of E-cadherin and Cx43 protein may be valuable in predicting the biological behavior of gastric carcinoma.
