Flos Chrysanthemi is the dry capitulum of Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat(CMR), and is used as a kind of traditional Chinese herbal medicine.Flos Chrysanthemi is pungent, sweet and bitter in flavour,slightly cold in nature,which has been used as herbal tea or remedy for centuries.In the past time,it was proved to be antipyretic,detoxicate,stanch bleed,reduce the swell,and nourish hepar and view.Modern medicine has demonstrated that the CMR possesses the function of antitumor,anti-inflammatory,antibacterial and antioxidant activities and to increase the coronary flow.Officially,the fower of CMR was documented in China Pharmacopoeia(2005).These species included Gongju,Boju,Chuju and Hangju.And they were called the four kinds of medicinal Flos Chrysanthemi.Flavone in Flos Chrysanthemi has the therapeutic effects to cardiovascular diseases,oxidation and cancer.And chlorogenic acid is the main antibacterial ingredient in Flos Chrysanthemi. The contents and constituents of essential oil in Flos Chrysanthemi influence the CMR's quality because the oil has some active pharmacological function.At first,this study used three index ingredients,including total flavone,chlorogenic acid and essential oil,to judge the quality of Flos Chrysanthemi.The contents of total flavone were determined by spectrophotometry.High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)method was applied to determine the contents of chlorogenic acid.And the essential oil was extracted by water-steam distillation and the total essential oil was determined.The chemical constituents of the essential oil were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS).The results were showed as follows:The constituents of total flavone and chlorogenic acid in Gongju were more than the other three kinds of medicinal Flos Chrysanthemi.And Chuju was observed with the highest contents of essential oil.The constituents of the essential oil were analyzed by GC-MS and 46 compounds were identified in Chuju,35 compounds in Boju, 18 compounds in Gongju and 6 compounds in Hangju,respectively.We could see from the results that the contents of total flavone and chlorogenic acid in Gongju were more than the other three kinds of medicinal Flos Chrysanthemi.Besides, Gongju had good floral scents.So we developed a kind of flavor chewable tablets of Gongju.The main active ingredients of Flos Chrysanthemi were furthest reserved by using the super micro-milling technology.And xylitol was used to be the sweetener which avoided adding caloric.So it suited all kinds of people.Through optimizing the forming ulding ingredients of Gongju chewable tablets and the processing technology,we manufactured a kind of Gongju flavor chewable tablets which could provide one way to further processing of Gongju.And we believed that this kind of tablets would have good market prospects.
