Objective:To observe the clinical therapeutic efficacy of scalp acupuncture combined with occupation therapy on motor functional disturbance of the upper limb of stroke patients,to study effects and long-term efficacy of them on motor functions of the upper limb and activities of daily living in patients with stroke, and a new rational proof of more effective rehabilitation therapy of intervention study was to be sought for the clinic to improve those stroke patients of motor functional disturbance of the upper limb.Methods:46 patients were randomly divided into two groups, treatment group and control group. There were 23 patients each group.Patients in the control group were treated with the occupation therapy, while those in the treatment group received the scalp acupuncture in addition to the occupation therapy based on the control group. All patients were assessed before and after training period. The evaluating items included:(1) Fugl-Meyer(FMA) assessment scale for the motor function of the upper limb;(2) Modified Barthel index (MBI) scales for activities of daily life.Statistics:(1) Statistical significance was set at the 5%level.Analysis was performed using the statistical package of social science(SPSS), version 12.0;(2) Measurement data were presented as means±SD,and independent samplet test was applied to compare the differences between two groups;(3) Categorical data were expressed by percentage, and comparison among groups was performed by Chi-square;(4) The rate-of-change protection of FMA between before and after treatment were performed by Independent sample T-Test;(5) Line correlation analysis was applied between FMA and MBI after treatment.Results:(1) There is a significant improvement(P<0.01) of motor functions of the upper limb, and activities of daily living both in the treatment group and the control group before and after training period, and all the data's rate-of-change has significant differences between two groups(P<0.01).(2) There is a significant difference(P<0.05) of motor functions of the upper limb, and activities of daily living between the treatment group and the control group after 7 weeks treatment.(3) There is a significant difference(P<0.05) of motor functions of the upper limb, and activities of daily living between the treatment group and the control group after 3-month follow-up. (4) Significant relationships were found between motor functions of the upper limb, and activities of daily living(r=0.777-0.985,P<0.01).Conclusion:(1) The scalp acupuncture and occupation therapy were both effective methods for motor functional disturbance of the upper limb of stroke patients.(2) The scalp acupuncture and occupation therapy could effectively improved motor functions of the upper limb and activities of dally living of patient with stroke, and the cumulative effect was better than using an occupational therapy only.(3) There were some long-term efficacy both scalp acupuncture combined with occupation and the simple occupation in treatment on motor functional disturbance of the upper limb of stroke patients, but the effect was more obvious of scalp acupuncture combined with occupation.(4) There was significant relationship between motor functions of the upper limb and activities of daily living of patient with stroke. It indicated that the improvement of motor functions of the upper limb is benefit to activities of daily living of patient with stroke.
