Background:In the current decade,HIV transmission through unprotected sex has risen rapidly in China.A defining feature of the epidemic is the increasing burden of HIV infections in women, especially in female sex workers. The urgent need for microbicides to limit the sexual spread of HIV in China is clear. The research on the acceptability of Microbicides has not been reported in China. Objectives:To know the acceptability of Microbicides and the associated factors among FSWs and clients, and to provide useful information to relative departments. Methods:entertainment places were selected through stratified sampling. The female sex workers were recruited through non-probability sampling. The male sex clients were recommended by relative persons.In-depth interviews and anonymous questionnaires were used to collect data.Qualitative data was coded, sorted and organised into main concepts.Quantitative data was analyzed using univariate and then further multivariate logistic regression methods to identify the associated factors about acceptability of Microbicides.Results:1.400 female sex workers and 200 male sex clients were recruited.2. Participants were prone to accept the microbicide like this 1)protecting from HIV infection effectively and safely 2)offer lubrication 3)effective time up to 24 hours 4) less than 10 RMB per time.81 percent participants indicate that they will purchase and use microbicides in the future.3.The associate factors about acceptability of Microbicides among participants include gender, age, layers of entertainment places, cost, perception of risk behavior, knowledge about AIDS and STDs,attitude of male, Microbicides'physical characteristics, methods and feeling of insertion, local AIDS epidemic and sexually habit and vagina practice.Conclusion:1.In view of China's large population and the increasing rate of HIV transmission through unprotected sex, effective, safe, and affordable microbicides could be very substantial.2.Providers must deliver accurate messages to users to ensure they adequately comprehend its benefits and risks, and make correct choice.3. The results of this study suggest that the research on the acceptability of Microbicides in China is feasible.4.The results of this study indicate that the efficient and reliable way recruiting male sex consumers is through the recommendation of female sex workers.
