Objective:To investigate the relationship of blood serum matrix metalloproteinase-9 and interleukin-6 and acute cerebral infarction,to evaluate the value of MMP-9 and IL-6 in predicting the condition of patient,to observe the levels of blood serum MMP-9 and IL-6 effected by Xingnaojing injection and further explain the possible mechanism of Xingnaojing injection treating acute cerebral infarction,to offer a possibly useful protectful drug for person with acute cerebral infarction.Methods:46 patients with acute cerebral infarction in hospital no more than 24 hours were randomly divided into group A(routine group) and group B(treatment group).23 cases(male 14 female 9,mean age 63.9±10.3Y) were served as group A.23 cases(male 14 female 9,mean age 67.7±10.2Y) were served as group B.20 normal cases(male 12 female 8,mean age 69.3±7.3Y) were served as group C(normal contrast group).Routine western medicine (including dehydration and degrading intracranial pressure,controling blood pressure,resisting platelet aggregation and degrading fibrinogen etc.) was given to 23 patients of group A,and Xingnaojing injection was given to 23 patients of group B besides the routine medicine.Vein blood samples were collected before breakfast on the morning of first day,third day,eighth day,and fourteenth day.Both MMP-9 and IL-6 were tested by ELISA.Statistical analysis was performed on SPSS14.0 system software.Results:1.The levels of blood serum MMP-9 and IL-6 of the cases with acute cerebral infarction were markedly higher than those in group C(P<0.01).2.The MMP-9 concentration of group B descended below normal after treatment.The decrease degree of MMP-9 and IL-6 concentration of group B was obviously higher than group A(P<0.01),espically in big-area infarction.3.The levels of blood serum MMP-9 and IL-6 of acute cerebral infarction were positively correlated with the infarction area(r=0.673,0.678,P<0.01) and neurologic impairment(r=0.481,0.446,P<0.01).4.Group B surpasses group A obviously in neurologic impairment therapeutic effect.Conclusions:1.The concentrations of blood serum MMP-9 and IL-6 in direct proportion to the infarction area,and reflect situation of patients and extent of neurologic impairment.2.After interfere with drugs,the concentrations of blood serum MMP-9 and IL-6 do not appear peaks in charts,but two slowly droping curves.Xingnaojing injection treatment group decrease obviously.3.Xingnaojing injection plays an important role in curing the patients who suffer from acute cerebral infarction,espically for big-area infarction and serious neurologic impairment.We deduce that Xingnaojing injection can restrain MMP-9 and lessen the damage of vessel basement membrane and blood brain barrier(BBB),thus lighten the harm of cerebral ischemia and cerebral edema and reperfusion damage.We also deduce that Xingnaojing injection could clean free radical and inhibit inflammation response and immunity response from inflammatory factor such as IL-6.Through lessening inflammation response and excitatory amino acids toxicity to brain cells,Xingnaojing injection can be used as an protectant of brain.Therefore xingnaojing injection would be an possible MMP-9 inhibitor.
