Objective:To investigate the effects of Shenfu injection,an intravenous drug made from traditional Chinese medicinal herbs,on spinal cord ischemic injury in rabbit models.Methods:24 male New Zealand white rabbits were anesthetized by halothane. Animals were randomly allocated to four groups:group group A(n=8) was received physiological saline and group C(n=8) was received intravenous Shenfu injection(10 ml·kg-1) at a constant rate(1.5ml/min) with in 30 min before aortic cross clamping; Group B was received Methyl-Prednisone injection(MP)(120 mg·kg-1) in 30 min after reperfusion respectively;Neurologic status was scored by the Jacob system at 1,4,8, 12,24 h and 48 h after the operation. The animals were sacrificed at 48h after reperfusion and the spinal cord(L2-7) was removed immediately for histopathologic study,HSP27mRNA examination by RT-PCR and apoptosis rate by Flows Cytometry(FCM).Results:All animals survived in the experiment. The neurologic scores at each observation time of group B and group C were significantly higher than those of group A(P<0.05).No difference was found between group B and C.The numbers of apoptosis neurons at anterior spinal cord of group B and group C were less than those of group A at 48 h after reperfusion(P<0.05).No difference was found between group B and C.The expression of HSP27 mRNA of group B and C were significantly higer than that of group A(P<0.05).Conclusions:Shenfu injection has good effects on chronic spinal cord ischemica reperfusion injury rabbit models, which maybe related to its promotion of HSP27, reduce the neuro apoptosis and histological microenvironment, protect important organs.
