Objective: To study the characteristics of acute retinal necrosis syndrome and evaluate the therapeutic effects of anti-virus drug, laser coagulation and vitreo-retinal surgery. Methods: 36 cases (42 eyes) which were diagnosed as acute retinal necrosis syndrome were studied. All the patients were treated with (acyclovir, ACV), 5 cases(6eyes) were treated with combined laser coagulation. Others were treated with combined surgery of vitrectomy, photocoagulation, C2F6, C3F8, or silicone oil tamponade. Results: The following-up period was 6-24 months. Retinas of 40 eyes were all successfully reattached, with the visual acuity of 37 eyes was improved, among which ,the acuity of 23 eyes was better than 0.1,and the best acuity was 0.8.Conclusion: Acute retinal necrosis syndrome is an severe disease, retinal detachment is the most severe complication .It can lead to visual loss of the eye and often easily be misdiagnosed. It is mainly diagnosed by its clinical manifestations. If it is early diagnosed and treated in time with proper methods such as effective drugs including acyclovir and corticoid hormones, photocoagulation and combined vitreo-retinal surgery, good results can also be obtained.
