BackgroundSpinal cord injury is a common but serious orthopedic disease. In recent years, along with the development of certain industries such as transport, construction and so on,the number of patients with spinal cord injury, many occurred in young adults, has been increasing.Aside from leading to paraplegia, the paralysis of limbs will also bring about a variety of serious complications. So if not obtaining timely and effective treatment, paraplegia patients will lose the ability of taking care of himself or herself, which not only brings patients disability and great pain, but also gives family and society a great burden. Therefore, treatment on spinal cord injury and function recovery has become an important topic of global concern. From the existing document material, there is no system research on the evaluation of function recovery of spinal cord injury patients;moreover, many prospect treatment methods are still in the experimental stage. So how to make full use of existing medical resources and technology may also be regarded as an effective way to improve the effect of function recovery of spinal cord injury.ObjectiveBy evaluating the effect of function recovery of 106 paraplegia patients, discuss the correlation between the residual dysfunction of paraplegia patients and early comprehensive treatment, providing reference for further improving early comprehensive treatment plan of spinal cord injury. MethodAccording to the inclusion criteria,106 cases in line with conditions were selected, who are among all the inpatients coming from spinal column surgical department of Tianjin Hospital,January 2000 to May 2007.The contents of investigation include:1) inpatients in general:gender, age and so on;2) injury area, type and severity and so on;3) inpatients' hospitalized information:hospital days, hospital expenses,ect;4) treatment measures, the effect, ect.Apply injury classification, the ASIA movement and feeling score to assess separately the effect of before and after treatment. The data was analyzed by SPSS software.Main Results(1) The results of chi-square test show that there is no statistic significance in the ASIA score between patients before treatment and after treatment, who are in different groups by damage area, wounded reason, marital status, age and whether or not to accept the rehabilitation training.(2) The results of paired t-test reveal that the ASLA movement and feeling score of patients before and after treatment is of statistic significance, who are in different groups by injury area and degree, age, gender, marital status, whether or not to accept the Rehabilitation Training, however, with the exception of the groups by complete injury in thoracic spinal cord and complete injury in lumbosacral myeloid.(3) As the results of t-test showed,a comparison between groups of not complete injury patients after treatment, there is statistic significance, suggesting that implementing rehabilitation therapy for patients whose spinal cord is not complete injury contribute to improve the ASLA movement and feeling score.(4)In the result of Pearson regression,it is found that there is a significant positive correlation between the average hospital days and the average expenses per case, while both the starting time of surgery after injury and the beginning time of using Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate For Injection showing a remarkable negative correlation to the ASIA movement and feeling score. Conclusion and Suggestions(1)The effect of function recovery of paraplegia patients mainly depends on the injury area and the extent of injury. As the results of the study showed, there is no statistic significance in ASIA injury classification between patients before and after comprehensive treatment.(2) It is important to prevent and reduce the loss of functions of spinal cord in first-aid course and any treatment that aggravates spinal cord injury should be avoided.Aside from strengthening the first-aid personal training, the government should set up special treatment centre for spinal cord injury to standardize treatment and avoid the rate of secondary injury caused by delay in treatment due to several hospital transfers.(3) During the acute stage, to prevent or minimize secondary injury,we should reduce pressure, fix and implement lumbar inter- body fusion timely;a large dose of Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate's strong impact can also help protect the nerve cells of survival or partly injury, which has an remarkable effect on movement and feeling function recovery of patients with spinal cord injury, especially of patients with not entirely spinal cord injury.(4) Early rehabilitation training will help the function recovery of patients' movement and feeling, enhance the patients' ability of taking care of himself or herself and help patients return to society as soon as possible.(5)China's insurance system waits for further perfect.Patients' medical expense is mainly at their own expense;especially in those relating to the rehabilitation expense, only an industrial injury insurance claiming;moreover,in the group of peasant laborers, the rate of industrial injury insurance penetration is still relatively low, although the group is the very high-risk group of spinal cord injury.
