ObjectiveTo investigate the role of Aquaporin-3(AQP3)in the pathogenesis of cutaneous tumour. We examined the expression of AQP3 in the lesion from patients with Seborrheic Keratosis(SK),Bowen's Disease(BD),Squamous Cell Carcinoma(SCC)and Malignant melanoma(MM).MethodsApplying immunohistochemistry technique to analyze AQP3 expressions in lesion from 30 patients with SK,15 patients with BD,32 patients with SCC,17 patients with malignant melanoma and 15 normal skin specimen.Results1.The expression of AQP3 could be examined in the skin from all patients and normal control.2.There was no statistical difference in the expression level of AQP3 between SK and normal control(both P>0.05).3.The expression level of AQP3 in the skin lesion from patients with BD,SCC and MM was significantly higher than those in normal controls(P<0.01).SCC and MM show the strongest expression. But there is no difference between them.4.The expression of AQP3 protein is correlated with the differentiation of SCC((P<0.01).5.The expression of AQP3 in MM with metastasis is higher than MM without metastasis(P<0.05). Conclusion1.AQP3 might play a key role in the progression of Bowen's Disease,Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Malignant melanoma.AQP3 might play a key role in tumor cell invasiveness and metastasis.2 Detecting AQP3 expression may be a novel factor for assessing tumor differentiation in SCC.
