Objective: To detect protein expression of LOX-1 and IL-1βbetween normal human coronary artery atherosclerosis and atherosclerosis by immunohistochemistry . We analyze the relationship between their expre- ssion and atherosclerosis development.Methods: Chose 63 coronary arteries from 63 autopsied cases.At first ,we divide the samples into 3 groups by HE staining,including A group(normal coronary artery 15cases),B group(coronary artery stenosis≤50% 26cases ),C group(coronary artery stenosis>50%).Then we detect the expression of LOX-1 and IL-1βby immunohistochemistry,and also locate macrophage(CD68) and smooth muscle cell (α-actin) in each group.Chi square test and Spearman test are applied in statistics treatment.Result: There is no expression of LOX-1 and IL-1βin normal group,but the expression increases in coronary artery atherosclerosis and mainly locates in the membrane of endothelial cells,macrophages,smooth muscle cells and foam cells.Statistical analysis demonstrates that there is more expression in B group than in C group.This difference is significant (P< 0.05).Positive association between LOX-1 and IL-1βin atherosclerosis by Spearman test(rs=0.519 ,P=0.001). Furthermore,we find the expression of LOX-1 in intima is more significant than in media.Conclusion:(1) LOX-1 and IL-1βplay an impointant role not only in the initiation but also in the development of atherosclerosis.And this effect is more significant in the early development of atherosclerosis.(2)The effect of LOX-1 in coronary artery intima surpasses that in coronary artery media. (3)The expression of LOX-1 correlates with the expression of IL-1βin the region of atherosclerotic plaque.This consequence prompts that IL-1βas an impointant inflammatory factor may induce the expression of LOX-1..
