Objective:To observe the effect of lithium on the spine cord injury(SCI)rats; to compare the neuroprotection of different does of lithium chloride on SCI rats. Methods:The models were made by the technique of the NYC method.50 rats were randomly divided in to 5 groups:non treated group(NO n=10),treated with Nacl group(NA n=10),treated with 2mEq/kg Licl(LI2 n=10),treated with 4mEq/kg Licl(LI4 n=10),treated with 6mEq/kg Licl(LI6 n=10). All the rats were injected intraperitoneally with lithium chloride once a day for 28 consecutive days.Study on the BBB(Basso,Beattie,Bresna hanLocomotor Rating Scale)scale of hindlimb movements recovery in every group of rats at the forth week;Estimate spinal cord function by the latency of the motor evoked potential(MEP);At the end of the behavioral assessment, all rats were perfusion-fixed and the injured spine was made into paraffin sections for HE stain to observe the nerves. All data were expressed as mean±SD,statistical analysis was performed using SPSS v11.0 and P value of<0.05 was considered significant.Result:(1)There is on evident difference between non treated and treated with Nacl group(P>0.05).All the groups treated with Licl are better than control groups at the recovery of MEP(P<0.05)but no difference among them.(2)The gray matter of injured spine cord liquefied, putrefied four weeks after the operation, and formed an cavum that interface was made up with vein, glia and macrophages. The groups treated with Licl reserved a part of gray and white matter, and better than control groups.(3)The grade of the group treated with 4mEq/kg is better than other treated groups.(4)The death rate among all the groups is no difference. Conclusion:Lithium chloride can ease the injury of the spine cord and improve the recovery of hindlimb movements.
