Objective:To analyze the related factors in new born faild in hearing screening and audiological characteristics of auditory neuropathy. Methods:From October 2003 to Febrary 2007,360 infants(700 ears)with detailed birth records and hearing screening records were reviewed in the study. They were born in the maternal and child health hospitals(MCH)in Hangzhou city and surrounding areas, and had hearing screening with otoacoustic emissions(OAE),but they failed in the first and second hearing screening. After they were refferred to our hospital, auditory brainstem response(ABR),distortion product otoacoustic emissions(DPOAE)and acoustic immittance measurement were examined. Results:Among the 360 cases,20(19.8%)cases were once suffered from infection of newborn, and 17 cases(16.9%)had hypercholesterolemia. The proportion of abnormal DPOAE was statistically higher than the healthy.(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Nine cases were diagnosed as auditory neuropathy. Conclusions:The following-up should be done in infants with abnormal ABRs or high-risk factors of hearing loss.Complicated audiometries is important for diagnosing auditory neuropathy.
