Objective:To observe the effect and safety of acupoint catgut embedment on allergic rhinitis with pulmonary and spleenic Qi asthenia syndrome. The research, which studied the improvement of main symptoms and secondary symptoms by acupoint catgut embedment in order to provide the clinical evidence for the treatment,is aimed at finding a new and effective remedy for allergic rhinitis. Methods:Patients with allergic rhinitis of pulmonary and spleenic Qi asthenia syndrome were selected to make a prospective investigation.Patients would be randomly assigned into acupoint catgut embedment group(ACE group) and loratadine group(control group). There were 30 patients in each group. They would be respectively given catgut embedding therapy and loratadine for two medications. The complex symptoms, main symptoms and secondary symptoms before treatment would be in contrast to those after treatment and 3 months after treatment respectively. Results:General information of the two groups, including age, sex, course of diseases and the grades of symptoms, had no statistics sense(P>0.05); so the two groups were comparable. After treatment,it came out that grades of complex symptoms, main symptoms and secondary symptoms had significant divergence comparing with before (P<0.01),testing by paired T test. The grades of complex symptoms and secondary symptoms had significant difference between the two group(P<0.01), but the grades of main symptoms had no statistics sense(P>0.05).The total effective rate of ACE group was 100%,its excellence rate 46.43%,effective rate 53.47%;while those of control group was 100%,8%,92%respectively, significant divergence was shown between the groups(P<0.01). Three months later after treatment, comparedwith before(P<0.01),the statistics sense was shown in grades of complex symptoms, main symptoms and secondary symptoms, testing both by paired T test and T test between groups, while paroxysm time in week of thetwo groups had statistics sense(P<0.05). The grades above had significant differences in groups and between the two groups(P<0.01),except the secondary symptoms of CET group(P>0.05).The total effective rate of CET group was 96.43%,its excellence rate 28.57%, effective rate 67.86%,compared the 20%total effective rate of control group, significant divergence was shown between groups(P<0.01)The side effect rate of both groups were 6.66%,which had no statistics sense(P>0.05).Conclusion:Both the two treatments were effective to allergic rhinitis with pulmonary and spleenic Qi asthenia syndrome, but they would recrudesce to different extent.Acupoint catgut embedment would be lower recrudescence rate andparoxysm frequency than loratadine. In short term,it is more effective in complex and secondary symptoms amelioration than loratadine whose main symptoms is the same as ACE.However, therapeutic effect of acupoint catgut embedment whose side effect rate was the same as loratadine, was more effective in long-dated.Therefore,acupoint catgut embedment should be widely used for treating allergic rhinitis with pulmonary and spleenic Qi asthenia syndrome.
