Study On The Elders' Psychological Health And Effect Factors In Xi'an

With the development of the conditions of sanitation and economy,the average ages of people are prolonging gradually.Our country has been aging according to the fifth national census.Old people's health,especially psychological health,will be infected with the degeneration of physical functions, transformation of life styles,lost of the spouse.The psychological health of old people correlated with their living quality directly.Therefore,to elevate the living quality for old people,should not only focus on their economical and physical satisfaction,but also pay attention to their psychological health.So it is very important for maintenance good psychological health for the old to investigate the status of psychological health of old people,as well as to find out the influencing factors.This study took 2380 old people from all walks of Xi'an people,including 90 institutions of communities,army,schools,and other organisms.All of them completed the questionnaire,2261 of which were valid.The questionnaire included two parts.One is SCL-90,the other is about some general information, which was derived from literature,including 9 aspects as follows,sex,age, family condition,relationship with spouse,relationship with children,degree of education,pension,physical health status,and hobbies etc.Firstly,we did descriptive analysis of the psychological conditions and the general conditions. Then we compared the difference of psychological conditions for the old with different general conditions.At last,we conclude the influencing factors of old people's psychological conditions.Main results are as follows:a.There are more female old people than the male,accounting for 53.9%. With the ages becoming greater,the people are becoming less and less.People of 50-59 are of 47.4%,while people of more than 80 are of 4.3%.12.1%of old people live along after losing their spouses,and there are 45.5%old people live with their spouses.87.6%of old people have satisfying relationship with their spouses,and 10.7%think their children don't treat them considerably.86.1%of old ones have education level higher than middle school,and most old people have good economical conditions,more than 2000 yuan every month.88.0%of the old people have good physical health,can live on themselves,and 62.0%of the old often enjoy their own hobbies.b.The psychological condition of old people in Xi'an is good as a whole, with less than 2 scores on average for every subtest,and the average total score is lower than 160.There are less than half of the people have factor score more than 2,and total score more than 160,as a whole.But there are more than 40%people, who are positive of somatization,depression,and psychotic.c.All the 9 factors of sex,age,family condition,relationship with spouse, relationship with children,education,economic,physical health,and hobbies,are related with psychological conditions of the old people.To tell it in detail,women are better than men;younger is better than older;having spouses is better than living alone;good relationship with spouse is better than bad;good relationship with children is better than bad;higher education is better than lower;more income is better than less;good physical health is better than bad;having hobbies is better than having not.d.Age and education can enter into the regression equation,with total score as dependent variable,and general conditions as independent variable.
