BACKGROUND:After Human Papillomavirus(HPV) infecting epithelial cells, the factors that contributes to the Condyloma acuminata's(CA) occurrence, development and prognosis are many: the types of virus; some geng expression actively; the host's immunological function……. Although the precise etiology of CA'S relapse has not been elucidated, an abundance of evidence recently supports :sex hormones and its receptors play an important role in the relapse of CA. Recently great progess has been made in the research of their action mechanisms at molecular biologic and genetic levels. This article presents various possible mechanisms of sex hormones and its receptors in the pathogenesis of CA and Updated progresses in their clinical research, which may provide new approaches to the research and treatment of CA.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the role and its clinical significance of sex hormone and hormone receptors in the pathogenesis of Condyloma acuminate(CA) in female.METHODS: Sex hormone receptor (ER,PR,AR) in the CA lesion, as well as estranediol(E2),progesterone(Pr),and testoterone(T) of 20 primary female CA and 26 female relapse were measured respectively by immunohisto-chemical stain and radioimmunoassay and were compared respectively with those normal controls.RESULTS:1.The E2 and Pr values of CA were significantly higher than those of normal controls, The E2 and Pr values of primary CA were higher than those of normal controls (P<0.05) , The E2 and Pr values of relapse CA were higher than those of normal controls (P<0.01) , The E2 and Pr values of relapse CA were higher than those of primary CA (P<0.01) .2. There was no obvious change in the level of serum T (p>0.05) .3. The level of the ER,PR expression of relapse CA were significantly higher than those of primary CA and controls (P<0.01) ;There had no obvious change in the level of the ER,PR expression of primary CA and controls(p>0.05).4. There was no obvious change in the level of AR expression of relapse CA with those of primary CA and controls(p>0.05).CONCLUSIONS:1. The E2 and Pr values of CA were higher than normal controls, Sex hermones, especially E2 and Pr,have correlated effects on HPV infection. E2 and Pr may play an important role in the pathogenesis of female genital Condyloma acuminatum.2. The E2 and Pr values of relapse CA were significantly higher than those of primary CA, Female CA with high E2 and Pr may have had higher relapse rates .3. The level of the ER,PR expression of relapse CA was significantly higher than those of primary CA, We suggested the steroid hormone receptors, especially ER and PR, have correlated effects on the relapse of CA.4. Sex hormone with its receptor examination may be useful to follow up and assessment of therapeutic effect.
