Objective: Rise in Intracranial pressure (ICP) may stem commonly from central nervous system disease including cerebrovascular disease, traumatic brain injury, and intracranial infection and so on. ICP monitoring is potentially useful in many clinical situations and has a profound influence on guiding therapy and judging prognosis. Currently, ICP is measured directly by ventriculostomy tube, which requires specialist placement. Lumbar puncture (LP) is among the most common methods used to measure ICP indirectly. The two methods are invasive and may have side effects and have some limitations. It is necessary to explore the noninvasive method of ICP monitoring. Comparison with other noninvasive methods of ICP measurement, such as transcranial Doppler and retinal venous pressure, measuring intraocular pressure (IOP) is less expensive, saves time, operate conveniently, is more available. Intraocular is linked with intracranial, venous of intraocular flow to intracranial venous plexus, rise in Intracranial pressure lead Intraocular pressure corresponding Increased. Our study included a great number of patients with a wide variety of clinical presentations. The IOP and ICP were measured simultaneously to analyze the correlation, and to evaluate the feasibility of noninvasive monitoring ICP by IOP measurement. Methods: ICP of 55 cases (34 patients) with central neural system sickness , include viral meningitis patients , epilepsy patients ,tuberculous meningitis patients, infection encephalopathy patients, low intracranial pressure headache patients, subarachnoid hemorrhage patients and cerebral infarction patients. In the cases, there are no glaucoma or other disease which change patient's intraocular pressure. They were measured by lumbar puncture, IOP were measured by two scales of Schiotz tonometer in both eyes, and the mean were calculated. Then we take the data by linear regression analysis, do regression coefficient to the significant test. Results: There were significant correlation between ICP and left ,right and mean IOP (r= 0.697,0.784and 0.765,p<0.001).Conclusion: IOP is correlated well with ICP, ICP could be reflected by IOP measuration.
