Objective: To investigate the nutritional state, immune function and rate of wound site infection in preoperation and postoperation of patients with gastroenteric cancer ,and subsequently, to assess the relationship of the wound site infection, time of operation and immune function. Methods: 133 patients with gastroenteric cancer or benign tumor were selected to undergo operation. They were devided into two groups(the lower immune function group and the normal immune function group). The rate of surgery site infection between two group were compared. The immune targets(C3,C4,IgA,IgM,IgG, CD4+/CD8+,peripheral blood lymphocyte count) and nutritional targets(siderophilin, prealbumin) of patients with gastroenteric cancer of benign tumor were measured in the preoperation ,3 days after operation and 5 days after operation. The result of different time points were compared with.90 patients with gastroenteric cancer and 43 patients with gastroenteric benign were devided into two groups (operation time was less than 2 hours and operation time exceed 2 hours). The decrease degree of immune targets and nutritional targets between preoperation and postoperation were compared between the two groups. Results: The rate of surgery site infection of patients with lower immune function was remarkably higher than that of patients with normal immune function (P<0.01). The results of postpoperation were lower than that of preoperation. The decrease degree of immune targets, nutritional targets and the targets of CMI between preoperation and postoperation of patients whose operation time exceed 2 hours is remarkably higher than that of patients whose operation time is less than 2 hours. Conclusions: The decrease of immune function after operation may due to the surgery site infection of patients with gastroenteric tumor. The extension of the operation time may due to the deterioration of immune function and nutritional state of patients with gastroenteric tumor. The prolongation of the operation time may due to the deterioration of immune function of patients with gastroenteric tumor, and then increase the rate of surgery site infection.
