| Objective: (1) Develop an adult patient stressors rating scale for using in general inpatient over 16 years without psychometric problems.(2) Examine the reliability and validity of the scale. Methods: We identified the structure and function of the scale based on the J.C. Coyne's stress theory and the results of interview. The sample of our study was 500 inpatients coming from 6 hospitals in city of Changsha. 40 of them redo the questionnaire with an interval of 7 days. The reliability analysis included the Cronbach's a, split- half reliability and test-retest reliability. The validity analysis included content, construct, and criterion-related validity. Results: (1) According to the results of item and exploratory factor analysis, 51 items of APSRS was retained. (2) Reliability test: The Cronbach's a, split-half and test-retest coefficients ranged from 0.779 to 0.906, 0.739 to 0.775 (P<0.01) and 0.539 to 0.740 (P<0.01) respectively for the subscales and were 0.962, 0.731 and 0.862 respectively for the total scale. (3) Validity test: Exploratory principal component analysis of the items identified that six first-order factors of the scale explained 60.631% of the total variance. Subscale correlations studies showed that the correlations ranged from 0.380 to 0.863 among subscales and from 0.726 to 0.863 among the subscales and total scale. The correlation coefficient with SCL-90 was 0.563, and most of the subscales' coefficients of APSRS and SCL-90 were above 0.300, the correlation coefficient with HSRS was 0.435, and most of the subscales' coefficients of APSRS and HSRS were significant. The testing results showed that inpatient with different ward, job profession and marital status were different psychology in some aspects. Conclusions: A series of reliabilities testing conformed to the measurement standards. The content, concurrent and criterion-related validities were good. |
