Objective:To investigate the efficacy on blood Glucose, blood lipid and serum leptin in the berberine's treatment of new type 2 diabetes mellitus patients.,and to investigate the clinical efficacy of berberine.Methods:61 primary type 2 diabetes mellitus patients were selected, and were all treaded by recipe of diabetes mellitus and exercise for 4 weeks. Then they were divided into two groups randomly:Life-style intervention group(n=30) who were continued to keep the treatment, BBR group(n=31) who swere added to berberine(0.3mg,TID) without changing their previous therapy for 12 weeks. All patients were measured on waist circumference, hip circumference, weight and height, then count BMI and WHR before and after the treatment.The.The plasma(or serum) levels of TC,TG,LDL-C,HDL-C,Leptin,Hba1c,sugar and insulin (fasting and OGTT 2 hour) also be determinated, and count HOMA-IR to estimate insulin resistance. Results:The differences were remarkable of the decline of TC(P=0.023), LDL-C(P=0.017),FPG(P=0.041),HBA1C(P=0.017),Leptin(P=0.026) and HOMA-IR (P=0.046) levels after the treatment of berberine. Conclusions:The glucose and lipid of blood can be reduced by berberine remarkablely,at the same time the insulin resistance can also be improved.
