Background and Objective: Coronary atherosclerotic heart disease(CHD) is a common and frequently encountered disease which does harm to our health. Carotid arteriosclerosis(CAS) and coronary artery arteriosclerosis(CAAS) have the same patho-foundation and risk factors.CAS happens earlier than CAAS. Blood stasis syndrome(BSS) is one of the main mechanisms of CHD. So our study is going to detect the association between CAS and BSS.Methods: We enrolled 131 volunteers who met both the inclusion and exclusion criteria,58 of which were CHD patients, and the last were matched controls. All the subjects underwent carotid ultrasonograph, they were divided into three groups: normal, increased intima-media thickness(IMT) and complicating carotid atherosclerosis plaques(CAP).58 patients who had been examined by coronary angiography were divided into normal group and coronary artery disease groups. Carotid ultrasonography was performed in all of them. Simultaneously, they were divided into 8 subsets according to the Diagnostic Criteria of CHD. The8 subsets were BBS, Shenqixu Syndrome(SS), Qixu Syndrome(QS), Tanzhuo Syndtome(TS), Huore Syndrome(HS), Yinxuyangkang Syndrome(YS), Ganfen Syndrom(GS), Fushi Syndrome(FS),respectively. The relations between CAS and BBS were also discussed. Results: The prevalent of BBS in CHD patients was 69.0%, which was the highest, and the second was SS's, which was 55.2%, TS, GS, QS, FS, HS, YS were 36.2%, 29.3%, 24.1%,15.5%,19.0% and8.6%, respectively. 92.5% of patients with BBS were found increased IMT and 90% of them were found complicating CAP. It was significantly higher compared with patients without BBS(X2=16.913,P=0.000). Homogeneous pattern CAP was 8.3% in patients with BBS and 57.1% in patients without BBS. There are significant distinction between them(X2=10.244,P=0.001). The positive relation between CAP and BBS was demonstrated using binary logistic regression analysis(r=0.973,P=0.006).It has dependability between CAS and CAAS.Conclusions: BBS is the most common syndrome in CHD patients. The development of BBS is relative to carotid atherosclerosis plaque. Carotid ultrasonography will be one of the methods to diagnose BBS.The prevention and therapy of BBS as early as possible, will benefit the therapy of CAS and reduce the accident.
