Objective:To compare the clinical effects on treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures between unipedicular and bipedicular kyphoplasty. Methods:After PKP surgical intervention of 28 vertebral compression fractures by unipedicular kyphoplasty and bipedicular kyphoplasty.Investigate the time of operation, the times of X-ray taken, the changes of visual analogue scale(VAS),height of vertebral bodies.Compare the results of the unipedicular kyphoplasty group and the bipedicular kyphoplasty group. Results:The unipedicular kyphoplasty group: the operation time, the times of X-ray taken, the change rate of VAS,the mean height recoverd of the anterior and media vertebral bodies are as follows:44.62±18.65,9.6±1.76,54.59±11.63,29.05±8.05, 33.26±11.16;The bipedicular kyphoplasty group:the operation time, the times of X-ray taken, the change rate of VAS,the mean height recoverd of the anterior and media vertebral bodies are as follows:58.73±15.47,17.53±2.57,53.12±10.14,31.06±11.95,30.62±13.64.The times of X-ray taken, the operation time of the unipedicular kyphoplasty group are less than the bipedicular kyphoplasty group(p<0.05).The two groups have no statistical differences on the changer ate of VAS and the mean height recoverd of the anterior and media vertebral bodies(p>0.05).Conclusion:The unipedicular kyphoplasty not only has the similar effects as the bipedicular kyphoplasty on treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures, but also has the advantage of less operation time and less exposure to X-rays.The unipedicular kyphoplasty is satisfied after managing it proficiently.
