Objection: To objectively identify the clinical efficacy and Security of treating ankylosing spondylitis adopting the method of disease differentiation in combination with syndrome differentiationMethods: A total of 90 cases of active AS treated patients, collected from Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Fu Yuan Feng Shike from February 2007 to February 2008. Among them, 60 cases belong to the group of Chinese medicine, the other 30 cases belong to the group of Western medicine. The Chinese medicine group will adopt the Tongbi Differential Treatment mixture combined with traditional Chinese medicine, the Western medicine group will adopt the Liu Dan sulfasalazine joint of celecoxib treatment, both with a 12-week course of treatment. The indicators of clinical observation will be the clinical symptoms, signs and related laboratory examination, etc., using the ASAS20 standards, recommended by the international AS evaluation team, to evaluate the results of the study. Finally SPSS13.0 statistical software will be used for the statistical analysis of each result. Results: 1. After 12 weeks of treatment, and by the standards of efficacy of ASAS20, the efficacy of Chinese medicine group is obviously better than that of Western medicine group (P <0.05). 2. Considering patients of both Chinese medicine and western medicine group, their physical function, spinal pain, spine rigid, overall rating, the number of peripheral joint pain and other symptoms integral indicators have all been improved (P <0. 05), and the improvement of Chinese medicine group is better than Western medicine group ( P <0. 05). In the second week, comparing with western medicine group in the same period, Chinese medicine group is better than Western medicine group in the aspects of body functions, spine stiffness and joint pain, (P <0. 05). 3. After treatment, the activities of the thorax, Schober, referring to the distance, spine Yang, and other related indicators of patients in the two groups have been improved (P <0. 05); and the Schober, referring to the distance, spine Yang of Chinese medicine group are better than those of Western medicine group (P <0.05). Also, the occiput-wall distance of Western medicine group has not changed after treatment (P> 0.05), while the occiput-wall distance of Chinese medicine group has been changed relatively after treatment (P <0. 05). 4. After treatment, the ESR, C-reactive protein of both group have decreased (P <0. 05), and considering time and extent, the improvement of ESR, C-reactive protein of the Chinese medicine group is better than that of Western medicine group (P <0.05) .Conclusion: In the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis, the method of Tongbi dialectical mixture combined with traditional Chinese medicine has obvious clinical efficacy either on the improvement of body functions integral or of inflammatory indicators.
