Beijing is a typical representative of rapid developing cities in China. The rapid development brings series of urban problems, among which safety of city children's outdoor activity space is one. Related investigations revealed that unintentional injury of children under the age of 14 has become the first cause of death. In injury reasons, the urban environment is of critical importance.Based on the children's requirement of safety, this study analyzes the residential areas, streets, schools, city squares and parks where children have frequent outdoor activities. Through the questionnaire survey, interviews of child-fracture patients and field survey, the result shows that the environment accounted for 44.44 percent in the factors that lead to injury. Besides, the unreasonable design of Campus-front space, play equipment and Ground surfacing are the main reasons leading to the injury occurred. At last, this study summed up the causes of unintentional injury and the precautionary means.Unintentional injury is an accidental thing that people almost can't control, but it has cause and effect. Environmental Design lacks of security-related laws, policies and standards; and the environmental safety requirement is neglected. All these reasons bring about children's skating on thin ice in urban environment. Only with responsible security design, consummate safety standards, improving safety education and training, can children grow up healthily.
