Objective : To investigate behavioral health status and epidemiologic characteristics of unintentional injuries of children at 3~7, to explore the risk factors of unintentional injuries occurred among children at 3~7, providing suggestion to prevent and control the unintentional injuries among kindergartens of university. Methods: A total of 860 children, as subjects were selected from four subsections of Wuhan University's kindergarden. (l)Unintentional injuries patterns , were investigated with questionnaire signed by auther in the kingergarden during March 2004 to March 2005, including frequency of injury occurred, categories of injury, time of injury occurred, place of injury occurred, person bring about injuries, intentionally or not intentionglly, site of injured, cause of injury, number of resting days, methods of treatment after injuries. (2)The behavioral health status was measured with the Achenbach Behavior checklist of children(for parents). (3)Descriptive statistics was used to describe the epidemiological characteristics of unintentional injury.T-test, ANOVE and Chi-square test were used to compare the difference between group, for numeric and categorical variables, respectively.Multivariate logistic regression analysis method was conducted to explore the risk factors of Unitentional injuries occurred among children at 3~7.Result: (1)The total injury incidence rate was 23.36%.The injury incidence rates of Informational Center(29.06%) is the highest, secendly is Industrial Center(27.71%), then is the Principal Center(21.16%) and Medical Center(17.50%).Male children are 24.03% and famale children are 22.36%(P > 0.05).Small class(31.88%) is the highest, then is the middle class(25.33%) and the big class(14.51%).Han nation is 23.04% and other nation is 3\.25%(P > 0.05).Parents divorcing(39.13%) is higher than the others(21.91%).Gemination(41.67%) is higher than singleton(21.67%).The incidence rate of injury decreaced with age increase, it was the top and kept the high level from 3 to 5 years old.The top six categories of injuries were collision(30.58%), fall(21.22%),scald(14.03%) , knife-cutting(5.40%) , stab(4.68%) and bite(3.60%).The time distribution of injury occurred was at top in February, while at bottom in June. The injuries caused by self was leading constitution. The two common places of injuries occurred were home(35.97%) and kindergarden(35.61%).The main causes of injury were playing, walking, riding bicycle and suping. The injury mostly appeared in head/face, then in upper extremity, lower extremity, tooth, eye and so on.The main injured children received the medical care from outpatient clinic(50.00%), the followed received the medical care from teacher or parents and clinic unit in kindergarden.(2)The total postive rate of behavior problems of the kindergarden is 21.41%.Principal Center is 23.19%, Industrial Center is 18.07%, Informational Center is 20.94%, and Medical Center is 20.00% ( P > 0.05).Male children (25.25%) are higher than female (15.71%).The big class(20.32%) is the highest, then is the middle class(21.83%) and the small class(11.96%).Han nationality is 21.39% and other nation is 21.88%( P > 0.05).Parents divorcing(33.33%) is higher than the other(20.32%). Gemination(34.72 %) is higher than singleton(20.13%).The postive rate of behavior problems increased with age increase, it was the top and kept the high level from 5 to 7 years old.The score of five behavior factors and summation were higher for children happened unintentional injures than the others, and the score of depressed, schismatical, aggressive have significance difference(/><0.05). (3)The result of Multivariable Logistic Regression show that the injury occurred among children at 3—7 associated with the age, singleton, parents divorcing and the score of depressed, schismatical, aggressive. Conclusion: The unintentional injuries occurred associated with the behavior factors among children at 3~7. The effective measures should be taken in term of the behavior characteristics and factors of the unintentional injuries among children at 3 ~7 to prevent and control injury occurring. The health education of preventing injury occurring and behavior drawback should be conducted as early as possible to raise awareness among children of injury issues in the kindergartens and promote them growing healthily.
