OBJECTIVE To investigate the incidence of nosocomial infection (NI) and its risk factors after cardiac surgery of adult patient, explore the prevention and treatment strategy to lower the incidence of NI.METHODS The adult patients who got NI by microbiological evidence were investigated with retrospective study from Jan 1st 2005 to May 1st 2007 in the first affiliated hospital of shanghai jiaotong university. The Nosocomial Infections and potential risk factors were investigated. The data was analyzed with single factor analysis and logistic regression analysis with SAS 6.12.RESULT 37 NI occurred in 1036 cases, the rate of infection is 3.57%. Most of the patient were old people, 89.19% of them were older than 60-years. The most frequent NI sites were respiratory tract (64.58%) and urinary tract (16.67%). The pathogens were Gram-negative bacilli mainly (44.30%), then Gram-positive (30.38%), and fungus (25.32%). The risk factor of NI including: age, duration of operation, duration of peritoneum drainage, duration of urinary drainage, quantity of red blood cell (RBC) in the first 24 hours after operation and quantity of blood plasma in the first 24 hours after operation.CONCLUTIONS The incidence of NI in adult patients after cardiac surgery was 3.57%, the NI was commonly occurred in the first 10 days after operation. The most NI sites were respiratory tract and urinary tract. The majority of pathogens were Gram-negative bacilli. Polyinfections were seen in the respiratory tract infection and most of them combined with fungous infection. The susceptible factors include patients condition, management during and after operations.
