Application Study On Methods Of Estimating Size Of Commercial Sex Workers

Objective This study uses two methods(Enumeration and using crucial insider method) to estimate the size of commercial sex workers(CSWs) in sample area. Probing the feasibility,advantages and disadvantages of using crucial insider method. It can provide theoretical and practical basis for such studies in other areas.Method The distribution crucial insiders and local crucial insiders are separately fixed by literature analysis, sorting the crucial insiders and on-site interviews. The distribution crucial insiders provide the distribution of places existing CSWs in the city to identify sampling frame. Aggregate the number of CSWs in each place based on the information provided by local crucial insiders. The first step to use enumeration method is sampling according to the type of places, and then calculating the average number of CSWs in each type. Summarize all the information to obtain estimative size of target population.Result (1)The crucial insiders in first kind of places(hotels, cultural entertainment places, public bathrooms, barbershop): CDC officials,Health supervisory staff,Entertainment boss; The crucial insiders in second kind of places(the roadside shops): Taxi drivers,CDC officials,CSWs in roadside shops;(2)The distribution of places existing CSWs can be confirmed through interviewing with crucial insiders and using mapping technology; (3)Summarizing all the information provided by crucial insiders, the number of CSWs account for 0.24% to the population in the city, and 1.36% to female population from 15 to 49 years old; The size of CSWs which estimated by the method of enumeration account for 0.25% to the population in the city, and 1.42% to female population from 15 to 49 years old;(4)The results which estimated by the method of using crucial insiders has good consistency with enumeration method.Conclusion It is a significant method to recruiting proper key informants and using the information they provided to estimate the size of CSWs. Compared with enumeration method , this method can be more convenient to be in touch with CSWs places and obtain the required information resources.
