Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) is one of common and frequently-occurring temporomandibular disease .During century, there is dispute about the relationship between occlusion and TMD. In early, study pay close attention to posterior teeth loss, but there is no unanimous conclusion up to now. therefor, this research is designed to find relationship between tooth loss location, tooth loss quantity and TMD by the means of epidemiology, using advance statistics means- logistic regression analysis. Furthermore, Investigate dentists of prosthodontics by the mean of questionnaire, in order to investigate relationship between tooth loss and TMD.Materials and methods:Patient: tooth loss and have no TMD symptom or sign, 1000 prosthetic cases that come to prosthodontics of Dental Hospitals before june 2005. Information of patient was imported into computer, such as: sex, age, culture, tooth loss time, tooth loss display, tooth loss reason, reatment.Among above-mentioned case, we picked out 501 cases that age in 21-60 and posterior tooth loss reason is caries or periodontal disease.(men 209 cases, women 292 cases, mean age 44.05±10.31). Control group: tooth loss and have TMD symptom or sign, 699 cases(men 216 cases, women 483 cases, mean age 41.17±11.78) that come to TMD of Dental Hospitals before 1991. To investigate the relationship between TMD and tooth loss number, age, sex, we did multiple factor logistic regression analysis on the base of single factor logistic regression analysis.Investigate dentists of prosthodontics in two Dental Hospitals affiliated separately to the top two dental schools by the mean of questionnaire. Investigate the use of face-bow during complete denture fabrication. In order to find the actuality significance of occlusal adjustment in complete denture fabrication, and then investigate the possible suffering that occlusal disorders cloud do.Results:1,There was no sex differences in the patients of prosthodontics and no differences of tooth loss between left side and right side. The number of tooth loss increased with age. The location of tooth loss in upper mandible was more than that in lower mandible. The number of the first molar loss was the most.2,The variance entering egression equation was sex,age and posterior tooth loss(p<0.05),The coefficient of regression was -0.43,-0.229,-0.049,The odds ratio(OR) was 0.650,0.796,0.952.It indicated:the number of female TMD patients is more than male patients; The person of age 21-60 years is older, the risk of his getting TMD is lower; If the posterior tooth of somebody was lost, the risk of his getting TMD should be low.3,All dentists of prosthodontics investigated seldom used face-bow. But they all believed that more than 90% of their patients were satisfied with the dentures. The occluding relation was an important factor that effects the quality of complete denture fabrication.75% dentists did occlusal adjustment when they provide the fresh denture to patients. Conclusion:The patients of tooth loss have no sex differences. The number of tooth loss increases with age. The female, the young and the one who lost less posterior teeth are liable to TMD. Abnormal occlusion taction caused by tooth loss may be the important reason of TMD caused by less posterior teeth loss. Therefore, establishing normal occlusion taction should be thought highly when dentists do artificial denture. Occlusal adjustment is an essential step for complete denture fabrication, which reflects that establishing normal occlusion taction is very important for the quality of complete denture fabrication...
