Objective:To analyze the clinical pathological characterastics and therapeutic status of esophageal carcinoma patients in Xinjiang uigur autonomous region tumor hospital, and the differences on regions and ethnics. Methods:Retrospectively analyzed 2108 cases of esophageal carcinoma first treated in Xinjiang uigur autonomous region tumor hospital from January 1995 to December 2005,on the status of age , gender, occupation, alcohol and tobacco habits,diet, family history, sick time before the first hospitalization,length of lesions and clinical diagnisation and therapy. Result: The patients were most between 50 to 70 years old. The average age was 58.59. Farmers and herdsmen as the main incidence crowd(43.74%).There was statistical significance on the differences of gender, age, occupation, alcohol and tobacco habits and pathological types among ethnics(P<0.05) , wheras not on the differences of diet, family history, sick time before the first hospitalization and length of lesion(sP>0.05).There was statistical significance on gender, nations, age, occupation, pathological types and the habit of alcoholic drinks and tobacco between North and South Xinjiang(P<0.05), whereas not on diet, family history, sick time before the first hospitalization and length of lesions(P>0.05). The difference of age between year 1995- 2000 and year 2000-2005 was statisticaly different(P<0.05). 12.5%(263/2108)of the patients with no treatment after diagnosis, 43.3%(912/2108)of patients receiving only one method of treatment. Conclusion: There were obviously geographical, national and occupational characteristics on Xinjiang esophageal carcinoma patients ,and it took on a trend of increasing age. Nearly 1/8(12.5%) patients with no treatment after diagnosis while lack of comprehensive treatment in the treatment cases, which reflects the current treatment status of esophageal carcinoma in Xinjiang, that was closely related to geography and socio-economic conditions. Which would provided us a reference for the work of prevention and treatment of esophageal cancer in future.
