Objective:To investigate the diagnosis, treatment and clinical features of gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GIST).Methods:We retrospectively analyzed 22 patients with GIST treated in Shandong provincial hospital. Results:There were 12 males,10 females with average age of 48.6 years. Tumors located in the stomach in 16 cases(72.8%),jejunum in 2 cases(9.1%),ileum in 2 cases(9.1%),and duodenum, mesentery of small intestine, rectum in lcase (4.5%)respectively.The commonest symptoms were abdominal pain and abdominal distention(77.3%),alimentary tract bleeding(9.1%).All the 22 patients were treated surgically.Histology diagnosed as benign humor in 18 cases(81.8%), malignant in 4 cases(18.2%).The size of tumors was correlated with the malignancy of GIST significant(P<0.05).Benign GIST in 18 cases were followed-up for average24.6months,13 of them had no local recurrence and metastasis,2cases of them relapsed and operated again.Malignant GIST in4cases were followed-up for average26.4months,2cases of them with local recurrence were treated with re-operation,1 case of them had liver and lung metastasis, and 1 cases died. Malignant GIST in 2 postoperative cases had been irregularly retreated by chemotherapy, however, the survival period of these patients was not be prolonged. Conclusion:(1)The confirmed diagnosis rate of preoperative-GIST is low and digestive tract symptoms have no specific.(2)The size of the tumor is the important marker to the diagnosis of benign of malignant GIST.(3)At present, the operation is still the main method to treat GIST.For recurrent or metastatic cases re-operation can prolong patients' life.
