Objective To investigate the overexpression of cyclin-D1 and the expression of Rb supressoroncogene in parathyroid tissues and the clinical significance. Methods The overexpression of cyclin-D1 and the expression of Rb in 36 parathyroid adenoma tissues and 10 proliferative tissues and 10 normal tissues were detected by ABC immunohistochemistry. Results There are 12 overexpression of cyclin-D1(33.3%) and 30 positive Rb expression(83.3%) in 36 parathyroid adenomas; None of 10 proliferative parathyroid tissues is overexpression of cyclin-D1 and all of the 10 proliferative parathyroid tissues are Rb positive expression; none of 10 normal parathyroid tissues is overexpression of cyclin-D1 and all of the 10 normal parathyroid tissues are Rb positive expression. The overexpression of cyclin-D1 was significantly different between normal parathyroid and proliferation and parathyroid adenoma ( p<0.05),and was not significantly different between normal parathyroid and proliferation ( p>0.05). The expression of Rb was significantly related to the overexpression of cyclin-D1 in the adnoma group. The overexpression of cyclin-D1 was not related to the clinical data. Conclusions The overexpression of cyclin-D1 plays an important role in parathyroid adenoma, which leads to Rb decrease or phosphorylate ,Then loss the ability of inhibiting the growth of cells that contributes to the etiology of parathyroid adenoma.
