Objective:The artemisinin type of drugs is considerable to be the most promising compounds in the search for treatment of drug-resistant malarial. These sesquiterpene antimalarial compounds possess endopoxide bridge, as represented by the parent compound artemisinin. Artemisinin is a naturally occurring compound found in leafy portion of the herb, wormwood or artemisia annua, L. and has been used to cure fevers in China since 168 B.C. Although numerous methods for the analysis of artemisinin analogues have been developed, however, some of these methods do not convenience and some require sophisticated procedures.So we established a new method,which can determine arteannuin quality on the spot.Methods:1 ART is extracted from by petroleum ether (30~60℃) with ultrasonic extraction method for 15 min,which is determined by UV.The content of ART is computed by equation.MRD(mg·g-1)=(A×V×2.2984 )/(As×3) +1.2067A:Absobance of sample,V:Volume of extract,As:Absobance of standard Conclusion:A method of rapid detection the content of arteannuin in abrotani herba was established It was proved to be simple ,convenient and fast. Hypersound was used to extract arteannuin and UV was used to determine the content of arteannuin, this method simplified procedure ,and saved work time. It was proved to be a ideal method for determination of arteannuin. It was no difference for the results between the new method and soxhlet extraction method and weighing method, it was proved to be feasible.
