Since 90s of the twentieth century, people's living has been greatly improved with the development of national economy. But, it is not optimistic that the health status of Chinese people is not improved as the economy does. Incidence rates of chronic non- infectious diseases, such as obesity, hyperlipemia, hypertension, hyperglycosemia, coronary heart disease, are gradually rising annually. These diseases are not caused by bacteria or viruses, they are attributed to unhealthy lifestyles just like malnutrition, smoking, alcoholism, lack of exercise, psychological problems, and their long-term combined effects lead to physical problems in the end. The only way to make something done is changing the unhealthy lifestyles immediately and doing efforts to control the risk factors. It has been clear that the incident rates of those non- infectious diseases can be reduced fifty percent by the meaning of rational nutrition, moderate exercise, smoke abatement, alcohol withdrawal and good mentation.Nearly 600 serving and retired persons in a single unit, who had underwent annual medical examinations during 2002 to 2005, were involved in this study randomly. Results of physical examination, normal blood test, serum electrolytes test and other nutrition-related indicators had been recorded. A simple twenty-four hour diet recall was sent out to all participants with the invitation to join the study. According to the results of the investigation, those who were found having hyperlipemia, hypertension, hyperglycosemia, and similar diet habit, were invited to join the nutrition dawa with open lectures or individual counseling, and the result of intervention was followed up.As the results showed, the diet structure of investigated crowd is not reasonable. In the 24 hours intake nutrition, fat percentage of the total energy is high, and intake of carbohydrates is below the RNI standards. Especially, the sodium intake which reaches the average daily intake of more than 20 grams is much higher than China's Institute of Nutrition recommended daily salt should 6 grams. Those whose body mass index is greater than 24.0 are regarded as overweight and its number is over fifty percent. According to 140/90mmHg standard diagnosis of hypertension, the number of hypertensive patients is far higher than the national average of 18.8%. According to the diagnostic criteria that total cholesterol more than 5.58 as hypercholesterolemia and triglyceride more than 1.8 as hypertriglyceridemia, the lowest incidence rate of surveyed hypercholesterolemia is 23.75% in 2005, and the highest is 39.53% in 2003, and annual incidence rate of hypertriglyceridemia is always higher than 22.35%. They are all much higher than the national average of 7.8%. The incidence rate of diabetes is higher than 20%, the incidence rate of hyperuricemia is higher than 17.77%, and both morbidities are far higher than the national average. After nutritional guidance interventions, the incidence of these diseases has shown gradually decreasing trend. In summary, our health education, dietary guidance and nutrition intervention are meaningful to the establishment of a rational way of life and the improvement of life qualities.
