Background: Obesity has now become an important focus in public health as the prevalence in all age groups is increasing at an alarming rate, in both developed and developing countries. It is recognized as a separate disease, also as a risk factor for type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, stroke, and a number of cancers. According to WHO, obesity is one of the top ten risk factor contributing to population disease burden. With modernization and change of lifestyle in China, rate of obesity is rapidly increased especially in cities and developed rural areas. The percentages of overweight and obesity for adult have reached 22.4% and 3.01% respectively in 2002. Childhood obesity in China has also become a severe health problem during the past 10 years. Therefore it is an urgent need to prevent and control obesity.Childhood obesity is harm not only to children physical and psychological health, but also it will often persists into adulthood which exacerbate the associated health risks. The issue related to the public health impact and the right of every child for a happy and health life. Although many reports on prevalence of obesity for school children and adolescents existed in China, research on obesity prevent for pre-school children is limited, and nutrition intervention study of obesity control have never been implemented in this population group in China.Nutrition intervention is very essential for obesity prevention of pre-school child because their nutrition conscioussness has a direct impact on their growth and development as well as their nutritional status throughout the life. The obesity control for children aged 3-6 years is most important as the key period developing health perceive, behavioral and habit in the life cycle.This study was aimed to prevent and control obesity for pre-school children by nutrition intervention.
