Objective: To observe the clinical effect of Jingtongxiao (JTX) Formula on treating Primary Dysmenorrhea (PD) of congealing cold and blood stasis, and to explore its mechanism of action. Method: Choose 80 patients who belong to PD of congealing cold and blood stasis. Divided them randomly into test group (40 cases, treated with JTX Formula), and control group (40 cases, treated with Shaofuzhuyu Capsule). Both groups started at 4 days before the menstrual period and lasted 7 days, a course contained 3 menstrual cycles. Before and after treatment, the therapeutic effects on PD, TCM symptoms, the change of the uterine blood circulation, the blood rheology, and the PGF2αin the menstrual blood would be compared. Results: The therapeutic effects on PD has no difference between 2 groups (P>0.05). The TCM symptom of the test group and control group is significantly different (P<0.05). After the JTX Formula treatment, the indexes of blood rheology were significantly decreased (P<0.05). The uterine artery blood flow and the average flow speed were both increased, while the PI,RI,A/B were all decreased (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The indexes of PGF2αin the menstrual blood is deceased obviously (P<0.05). Conclusion: JTX Formula indeed has a good therapeutic effect on this disease. The improvement of clinical symptoms is obvious. The effect may be achieved through improving blood viscosity and microcirculation of pelvis cavity, decreasing the content of PGF2αin the menstrual blood.
