The Operative Treatment Of Nonunion Of Humeral Fracture With Ilizarov Tecnique

Object: To evaluate the operative treatment of nonunion of humeral shaft fracture with Ilizarov extra-fixture. Methods: The authors retrospectively reviewed the 8cases of nonunion of humeral shaft fractures who were operative treated with Ilizarov external fixture from September 2000 to October 2006. 2 hypertrophy casers,6atrophycases and all operated patients were took out of the internal fixture , the proximal and distal end of fracture were fixed with nail of Ilizarov fixture. the vascular tissue were removed out in the atrophy cases, and put the auto graft bone in the marrow after drilling it. Results: None of patients have been lost to follow-up. The 8 cases of nonunion of humeral shaft fractures were healed except 1 case. The average period of fixation were 7.1 months (from 5 to 10.4 months), the average follow up time were 17.5 months. 2 cases were gotten radio nerve paralysis, one of them was recovered and one of them was treated with tendon aversion. 1 case was gotten the upper trunk of brachial plexus paralysis; at least its function wasn't completely recovered. 6 cases have the infection of nail hole, 1 case which were insensitivity for the antibiotic medicine get heal after adjusting the place of nail. The average retraction of hummer's was 2.1 cm. Conclusion: The nonunion of humeral shaft can get satisfactory effecting with the technique of Ilizarov extra fixture, but it need long time to follow up to prevent the infection of nail whole. The retraction of humeral shaft doesn't impact function of supper limb and normal lives.
