Clinical Study On Epilepsy After Stroke

Objective: To investigate the clinical features of epilepsy after stroke. Methods: 84 patients of secondary epilepsy fallowing stroke treated in the first affiliated hospital of Xinjiang medical university from Jan. 2002 to Dec. 2006 were statistically analyzed in their nature of stroke, station of stroke, seizure type, outbreak time retrospectively. Result: Among 84 epilepsy fallowing stroke, there are 55 male cases (65%) and 29 female cases (35%), 53cases presented with generalized seizure and 3 cases with partial seizure, 36 patients developed seizures in early stage (42.9%); other in late stage (57.1%). Among 84cases with epilepsy, 51cases suffered seizures located in brain cortex(60.7%), others were located in sub-cortex (39.3%). The location and type of strok between generalized seizure and partial seizure have difference statistically, the seizure type of EP and the type of strok in the case with early EP after strok are statistically different from the case of late EP. Conclusion: the cases of the focus located in brain cortex and hemorrhagic stroke in generalized seizure of EP after strok are more than partial seizure. the cases of generalized seizure and hemorrhagic stroke in early EP after strok are more than in the late EP after strok. incidence of epilepsy after stroke is associated with locations of focus cortex/ subcortex)。...
