Objective:Polycystic ovary, syndrome(PCOS)is a most common endocrinopathy of women in reproductive age.Its Pathophysiology changes are extensive, involving in neuroendocrine, glycometabolism, lipometabolism and local ovary regulating factors. Insulin resistance in an important pathophysiological basis of PCOS.The long-term sequence of PCOS includes development of Endometrial cancer, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular diseases even in young women.Treatment with insulin sensitizers just as metformin and so on,witch can improve both metabolic and hormonal atterns and also ameliorate ovulation in PCOS.Typical clinical manifestations of Polycystic ovary syndrome include amenorrhea, infertility, hirsute and obesity. This study is to study the metabolic features of obese and nonobese women with potycystic ovary syndrome.Method:Seventy-tow Polycystic ovary syndrome women participated in the study. Body mass index and height are evaluated by one person. And to analyze the condition of menstruation, ovulation and pregnancy. The criteria of the diagnose of Polycystic ovary syndrome include oligomenorrhea,or amenorrhea, chronic anovulation and androgen excess, just as hirsute and polycystic ovarian morphology under ultrasound.Glycemia and insulin(INS)response to the tolerance test with 75g oral glucose load and serum levels of luteininzing hormone(LH),follicle stimulating hormone(FSH),estradiol(.E2), testosterone(T),prolactin(PRL)were assessed in the 74 women of PCOS patients studied,Hormone levels were estimated at baseline in the early follicular phase(EFP)of the cycle,Ovarian morphology was examined by ultrasonography, usually performed transvaginally. Results:â‘ The IR rate was 25.5%in the 74 patients,44.4%in obese patients and 13.8%in nonobese patients. There are significant differences in the incidence of IR between obese PCOS patients and nonobese PCOS patients.â‘¡The incidence of Diabetes mellitus was 2.1%and the incidence of IGT was of 8.5%,The There are no significant differences in the incidence of Diabetes mellitus and IGT between obese PCOS patients and nonobese PCOS patients.â‘¢T level was higher in obese and nonobese PCOS patients than normal, but there are no significant differences between the two groups.â‘£The differenciation between the level of sex hormone has no significance. Conclusion:The obese group showed high levels of insulin resistence and PCOS patients have severe hyperandrogenism, which may have some health implications later in life.
