The Feature Of Occupational Injury And The Association Between Occupational Injury And Worker's Psychological Facotors In A Steel-iron Enterprise

[Objective] China has more serious problems about safe production when compared with other developed nations, and the incidence of occupational injury is higher than that in developed nations, which is harmful to our national economic development. According to the studies of other countries, even though the surrouding, producing and preventing utilities have been improved, the incidence of occupational injury has not obviously decreased, and the declination of occupational injury did not only depend on production environment and utility. Some researches have indicated that personal factors, especially personal psychological factors, have important impact in the happening of occupational injury. In our nation, the study about the personal psychological factors' effect on occupational injury has just started, and the research based on steel-iron enterprise is rare. Furthermore, the domestic researches were limited to the fields of the retrospective discription of the injury data. The research involved the control group and mutivariant analysis is rare too. In this study, we planned to describe the retrospective data of occupational injury in a local steel-iron enterprise and then to compare the difference of the personal psychological factors between the workers with occupational injury and those without occupational injury and analyse the relationship between occupational injury and personal psychological factors with mutivarient analysis.[Objects and methods] The occupaitonal injury data was collected in the steel-iron enterprise based on the occupational injury recorded from Jan 2001 to Dec 2005. The workers with over one day recovery because of occupational injury were involved into the following research and investigated with the questionnare of personal psychology. The occupation, injury type , injury location and injury cause were analysed discriptively. The association between occupational injury and personal psychological factors was analysed.[Results] There were 198 occupational incidents with 223 workers injuries, including 201 male workers and 22 female workers. The workers with occupational injury were mostly aged between 30 years old and 50 years old. Occupational injury happened mainly in the limbs with the percentage of 56.3%. Furthmore, 58.1% (115/198) of the occupational incidents were caused by personal unsafe behavior, 17.2% (34/198) caused by bad equipments and environment. The peronal unsafe behavior included error operation, neglect of safety and warning as well as distraction. In the bivarient analysis occupational tension (OR=9.00, p<0.001), dissatisfation of occupation(OR=13.00p<0.001), emotion unstability(OR=6.00 , p<0.001),the absence of responsibility (OR=7.33, p<0.001) and adventure tendancy (OR=3.00, p<0.001) were significantly associated with occupational injury. Then in the mutivarient analysis occupational tension(OR=5.73 , p=0.003) job dissatisfaction (OR=5.04 , p=0.047) and emotion unstability (OR=4.17, p=0.001) were associated with occupational injury. [Conclusions] Occupational injury in steel-iron enterprise had some features, including special distribution of time, type, property and location; the causes of occupational injury mainly included incorrect operation,unconsciousness of safety, prevention measures against occupational injury should be based on the features of personal psychological factors, especially occupational tension, emotion unstability and job dissatisfaction, played an important role in the happening of occupational injury.
