Objective: To study the behavioral and pathological changes characteristic of Alzheimer's disease induced via injecting CuCl2 in the lateral cerebral ventricle in Rats. Methods: 20 adult SD rats were randomly divided into the test group(n=10) and the control group(n=10).Rats of both groups were anesthetized by giving an coelo-injection 0f 1ml/100g of chloral hydrate to each anima1. 10 rats of the test group were then given each an injection of 5μL of NS containing 0.78μg/L of CuCl2 into the lateral ventricles of the brain.Rats of the control group were given each an injection of 5μL of NS via the same route. These injections were repeated on the fifth and tenth days.Behavioral changes were assayed with the Morris water maze test. Aβimmune plaques stained with immunohistochemical methods and ultrastructural changes examined by transmission electron microscop. Results: The average times for rats of the test group and control group to reach the platform were (40.47±21.76)s and (20.65±16.43)s, respectively (P<0.05). Light brown-coloured Aβimmune plaques were seen widely interspersed in the hippocampus of rats of the test group. By TEM no special change in the brain of the rats of the test group. Conclusion: Memory impairment of AD and Aβdeposition in hippocampus induced via injecting CuCl2 in the lateral cerebral ventricle in Rats.
